IDEA Factory at U. of Maryland Defies Gravity

The E.A. Fernandez IDEA Factory at the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering has a gravity-defying form: The seven-story building’s solid upper floors emerge above the lighter, mostly glass base. Designed by EYP, the project, which took three years to construct, recently had its official grand opening.

Ryan Palmer and Lupi Quinteros-Grady, President and CEO at LAYC have worked in tandem since 2018 to support the organization’s continued evolution and sustainability. 

The A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation was proud to invest $35 million to support the building of the University of Maryland E.A. Fernandez IDEA Factory.

Georgia Institute of Technology Clark Scholars hosted Courtney Clark Pastrick, Joe Del Guercio, Elle Wassertzug, and Sarah Bayne Elbert for a campus visit

The team also got a tour of the Hive Makerspace, a student-run Interdisciplinary Design Commons, and spoke to Scholars about their experiences on campus and their vision for the future of the Program.
